I know I'm right.
My husband and I were having a discussion about The Doobie Brothers over toothbrushing this morn. I'm of the opinion that "The Doobie Brothers" is clearly a reference to the mellowing herb while my husband feels that their moniker is derived from the fact that they're a "du-wop band".
It's about the doob, right?

Sorry Matt!
A doo wop band? Here's what one might hear at a joint Coasters and Doobie Brothers concert...
"You ain't gonna rock and roll no mo'.
Yakkety-yak
Don't talk back."
"Dude, that's such a bummer. That song...it's like about the suppression of free speech. [deep inhale] It's like...man, that's some good stuff...you know all the guy wants to do is rock, but authority has trapped him in a mundane existence. The dude is like constrained by the shackles of an oppressive society. You know? Got anything to eat?"
Poor, sweet sheltered Matt. (Shakes his head sadly.) Good thing he's got Ali to teach him the ways of the world.
Yeah, and Paul wasn't talking about the wacky weed in "Let It Be" when he refers to "Mother Mary."
I always thought it was because the quality of their music was 'doobie-ous' at best. Sorry...
THAT's what 'Mother Mary' means?
You mean he's not Catholic?
"doobious". Ha!
I always thought it was from Romper Room -- remember "Do Bee" and "Don't Bee"? Far out, man! (I am, of course, just kidding. I always associated the name with the things I... er, one... smoked.
